Smart Kitchen

Michihiko MINOH

Cooking activity is one of the most complicated tasks in daily life. In home kitchen, people make various dishes almost everyday. To support the cooking activity, we are developing a cooking support system named “Smart Kitchen”. Smart Kitchen gives cook instructions through video and/or voice guidance. To show the guidance on appropriate timing without disturbing the cook, Smart Kitchen recognizes his/her behavior silently through multi-sensing observation.
Toward realizing Smart Kitchen, we are currently working on mainly following topics.

1. Cooking Action Recognition through Multi-sensing Observation
2. Cooking Process Understanding Based on Recipe Information
3. Communication Model Design to Support Cooking

NLP Approach to Knowledge Search and Information Credibility Analysis

Sadao KUROHASHI

Judgement criteria used by people in their daily life are starting to heavily depend on text-based information in web documents. In the GCOE project, we aim to construct a new generation web search engine that can provide information or knowledge in an organized way, helping users to evaluate information credibility. We strongly believe that the improvement of natural language processing is crucial to realize such a search engine.
